THROWN SQUARED VASE • This form starts as a standard bellied bottle or vase shape, which is altered by paddling the sides with a wooden spatula. It is a good method for altering standard forms to make your creations unique

GLAZE BASICS: MATERIALS AND PREPARATION

QUIRKY FOX • This is a fun little sculpture that doesn’t take too long to make. You can decorate yours to look like a fox should, in its natural fur coat, or dress it up in bright colours as demonstrated; it’s up to you

GREAT REASONS TO GIVE A SUBSCRIPTION

A DAY WITH WENDY LAWRENCE

HEART DISH • This dish has been designed and made with Valentine’s Day in mind, but it would be a lovely gift to give to anyone, especially if filled with something delicious like chocolates

THE GREAT POTTERY THROW DOWN • It’s back! The first episode of the latest season of the Throw Down aired on 2 January and we finally got to scratch our pottery competition itch.

JUDGE: RICH MILLER

PRESENTER: ELLIE TAYLOR

PRESENTER: SIOBHÁN MCSWEENEY

RUSTIC DISHES • We are calling these dishes rustic because they’re made in a quick and free way to look really hand-made and with simple decoration – they don’t need great skill to make

Doug’s DIARY

SURFACE DECORATION PAINTING WITH GLAZE • As we have said many times before in ClayCraft, glazes and glazing are subjects in their own rights and strike fear into many makers, especially at the early stage of their ceramic learning. There are so many different ways to use glaze, as demonstrated in Linda’s brilliant coverage of the subject each month, but as you must know by now, we use commercially prepared glazes for the projects in the magazine, simply because, in the fast editorial turnaround, there is no time to develop, make and test new glazes, then apply them to the work.

Clay Craft BACK ISSUES

A TEAPOT CHALLENGE • Anglian Potters announced a Keith Brymer Jones ‘teapot challenge’ in January 2021. Why, oh why, was I only getting started in late November?
