Kady, Ezra, Hanna, and Nik narrowly escaped with their lives from the attacks on Heimdall station and now find themselves crammed with 2,000 refugees on the container ship, Mao. With the jump station destroyed and their resources scarce, the only option is to return to Kerenza—but who knows what they'll find seven months after the invasion? Meanwhile, Kady's cousin, Asha, survived the initial BeiTech assault and has joined Kerenza's ragtag underground resistance. When Rhys—an old flame from Asha's past—reappears on Kerenza, the two find themselves on opposite sides of the conflict. With time running out, a final battle will be waged on land and in space, heros will fall, and hearts will be broken.

A full-cast production supplemented by sound effects and music provides a thrilling conclusion to the Illuminae Files. Four teenagers, having survived the attacks on Heimdall, are now crammed onto a container ship with 2,000 refugees with a vague plan to go to Kerenza IV. They don't know that a separate battle rages there, with a small resistance still determined to stand against BeiTech forces. As with the other titles, the story is largely recounted through recordings, emails, IMs, and bulletins, giving the narrators the opportunity to vary their voices for the characters as well as providing an underwater quality for the audio introductions and computer recordings, which works particularly well with AIDAN, the artificial intelligence. An involving and exciting audiobook. E.J.F. © AudioFile 2018, Portland, Maine
