Let This Radicalize You
Organizing and the Revolution of Reciprocal Care
1 of 1 copy available
1 of 1 copy available
Longtime organizers and movement educators Mariame Kaba and Kelly Hayes examine some of the political lessons of the COVID-19 pandemic, including the convergence of mass protest and mass formations of mutual aid, and consider what this confluence of power can teach us about a future that will require mass acts of care, rescue, and defense, in the face of both state violence and environmental disaster.
The book is intended to aid and empower activists and organizers as they attempt to map their own journeys through the work of justice-making. It includes insights from a spectrum of experienced organizers, including Sharon Lungo, Carlos Saavedra, Ejeris Dixon, Barbara Ransby, and Ruth Wilson Gilmore about some of the difficult and joyous lessons they have learned in their work.

Diana Blue's vocal character is wonderful. Her positive tone provides an uplifting counterpoint to the topic of activism in the face of social injustice, environmental disasters, and other societal malfunctions. She helps the positive aspect of this guide to stay visible: the authors' belief that caring for others is a noble pursuit that has its rewards, as well as its frustrations. The two activist authors boost the credibility of their message by offering the personal stories of a selection of organizers, people who convey the joy as well as the difficulties of caring for those who are marginalized or victimized. These stories help the uninformed become more familiar with the personal challenges of radical activism and the many ways that disadvantaged people struggle for survival.
