THE SPIRIT OF THE BUSH
2026 Camera Magazine Imaging Awards • It’s been a more exciting year for new imaging products than we’ve experienced for quite a while, with plenty of evidence that the industry is feeling more buoyant and prepared to start taking risks with more adventurous designs. It’s very good news for use endusers and gave the judges plenty to mull over when selecting the latest CMIA winners.
SMALL FORTUNES • It all started a little over 30 year ago with a 35mm compact, but the cult status of Ricoh’s ultra-slim compact cameras has really grown in the digital era, especially with the current ‘APS-C’ format GR series. It’s going to continue with the GR IV which boasts a myriad of updates and upgrades to make it the most desirable model so far.

WEATHER PHOTOGRAPHER OF THE YEAR 2025 • Climate and weather are hot topics at the moment – no pun intended – and the Weather Photographer of The Year competition showcases both the tranquil and the stormy and all conditions in between.
GREAT (FOR THE) OUTDOORS • The equivalent of a 100-400mm focal range with a constant aperture of f/2.8, image stabilisation, useful close-up focusing and a pro-grade construction both inside and out. OM System’s 50-200mm telezoom is another convincing argument for the M43 sensor size, balancing easy handling with a big performance.

FUNBOX* • If today’s reincarnations of classic Polaroid instant cameras weren’t funky enough, how about this limited edition celebrating the skateboard culture. Thrasher magazine has decorated a Now Gen. 3 camera and there’s special film packs to go with it too.
VITAL STATISTICS
OLYMPUS OM-1 • These are the cameras that, in one way or another, had a significant influence on photographers and photography. The Olympus OM-1 not only changed the course of 35mm SLR design, but helped build its maker into one of Japan’s most powerful camera brands for at least the next four decades.
2025 SONY ALPHA AWARDS • Local photographers show off their talents in the Australia/New Zealand offshoot of the Sony World Photography Awards.
ROLL CALLING • Inspiring the digital GFX100RF is a long line of Fujifilm fixed-lens rollfilm cameras dating from the late 1970s. The 6x4.5cm format models offered an enticing combination of image size and portability. And the earlier mechanical models are still very appealing today.
